Choosing the right realm is the first step of fun in World of Warcraft. People have different opinions on which realm provides great gaming experience. I personally believe in “first impressions last”. With that in mind, choosing a realm is essential to fully experience the fun in Azeroth. But, when it comes to choosing the right realms for you there are several things to consider…

What kind of gaming experience I want?

World of Warcraft has four kind of realms; PvE, PvP, RP and RPPVP. Choosing a realm could greatly affect your gaming experience, considering what you like in each realm.

What is a PvE or Player versus Environment server?

PvE servers let you enjoy leveling without any disturbances. Seeing a toon form the opposing faction will not make you chill to the bones. They will not be able to attack you, unless you have activated your PvP flag which will enable them to launch an attack to the poor defenseless you. Personally, I would recommend these kinds of servers for new players. These kinds of servers will let you level your toon faster, and enjoy the wonderful places of Azeroth without the fear of getting camp at, and gank by high level players.

What is a PvP or Player versus Player server?

PvP servers are my personal favorite. It really gives emphasis in the word “war” in World of Warcraft. Imagine a bright day in Azeroth, minding your own business, questing in the vast area of Kalimdor. After a while, you begin to see a knight riding in a fancy flaming horse and beside his name is a skull mark. Then, you begin to ask your self; what level is a skull marked toon? Then, before you know it your head is sliced out of your body. After that, he will sit at your corpse and kill you again and again when you resurrect.

Fair fight is a rare thing to happen in a PvP server. Yes, a high level toon from the opposing faction can kill you on sight. Sometimes you will bump into a leveling party of two or more, and take advantage of the lonely leveling you. They won’t give you any mercy, for they have also experience the things you are experiencing now, or maybe worst. Some players even kill NPC’s that gives quest in low level zones.

Having a leveling buddy or high level friends would really be nice to have in a PvP kind of servers. They will be able to assist you in your greatest needs, but not in terms of gold.

What is a RP or Role Play Server?

RP servers let you internalize the character you play. If you want to play a druid, and pretend to be a druid in your interactions with others, these are the servers for you. Although role playing is not required, still these servers are the place to find like-minded role players. RP servers are like PVE servers, so if you don’t want to role play its better to create a toon on PVE servers.

What is a RP PvP pr Role Play Player versus Player server?

Lastly is the RP PvP server, its a combination of Role Playing and Player versus Player server, but some people think that there are less ganking and camping in these kind of servers. If a player will have a chance to kill you, they will, unless you bumped into a peace loving role player.

High or Low Population?

Choosing a high or low population server must also be put in consideration. If you like to play in a server where you can communicate and interact with many players, then a high population server is the best place for you. Some players have fun just chatting with different people in WoW, it’s a great way to enjoy more. You can have many friends, at the same time you can have many enemies (/grin). You can’t please everyone and there are just some players who like to terrorize people.

In low populated servers you can enjoy the whole map on your own, and live in your own perfect world. It’s hard to find good party and guild members. Though it’s easy to level up, it’s hard to find a good group for raids when you reach level 80 with smaller population.

Probably by now you’ve got your choice of realm. Be sure that whatever realm you choose, you’ll have fun playing there.

Good luck in your journey to Azeroth!
